"ONE-DIET-FITS-ALL 2"-The Myth

Shut Soul’s last blog “One-Diet-Fits-All”- The Myth had content related to Blood Type A and their respective physiological traits like digestive capacities, muscular strength and stress handling. This blog will throw some light on Blood Type O and its respective functioning in response to diet, stress and exercise. Also it will highlight lifestyle strategies to maintain overall health.
BLOOD GROUP “O”
People with blood type O carry neither antigen A nor B on their red blood cells. But they carry both antibodies A and B which undoubtedly convey little advantage over survival than other blood types. Possession of both antibodies proved to be a great defensive benefit on one hand whereas many-a-times this innate immunity can prove to be a hurdle to achieve good health.

Type O is Different!
Blood Type O is predisposed to certain illnesses such as ulcers and thyroid disorders. Individuals with Type O have the tendency towards higher levels of stomach acid. Also they have a very well-developed ability to digest meals rich in both fats and protein due to more than enough levels of two chemicals, one is intestinal alkaline phosphatase and another lipoprotein Apo B 48 secreted in digestive tract. This duo-combination not only metabolizes cholesterol more efficiently but also greatly elevates their ability to heal their gut and assimilate calcium in a better manner. Simple carbohydrates from grains are easily transformed into fats and triglycerides.
Although, these strengths come at a cost, many grains contain reactive proteins called lectins which can activate the immune system resulting in unwanted inflammation and hypersensitivity.
Type O peeps must have a diet loaded with iodine to stabilize their thyroid functioning but should be careful with cabbage, cauliflower, mustard greens and mushrooms, olives to avoid hormonal imbalance and irritation of digestive tract respectively. Arthritis and insulin resistance (diabetes) may be triggered with excessive intake of potatoes, corn and eggplants. Consumption of citric fruits should be kept at bay as a precaution to avoid acidity.

Stress Handling
Type O individuals are known for immediate “flight or fight” response. Bouts of excessive anger, temper and hyperactivity are prompt because of powerful synergistic relationship between release of dopamine and feeling of reward. They are more vulnerable to gambling, risk taking and impulsivity when overly tired depressed and bored. Naturally high levels of adrenaline and nor-adrenaline suggest minimizing caffeine.

Exercise-The Essential Component
Tremendous benefits from brisk exercises taxing the cardiovascular and muscular systems can be achieved. This also aids them to attain well timed chemical release and balanced emotional response. Engaging in varied exercises for a 40 minutes session three to four times a week is the best.

Live Right! Live Tight!
Here are a few quick lifestyle tips in addition to specific diet and work out regime:
  • Jot clear plans for goals and tasks – annual, monthly, weekly, daily to avoid impulsivity.
  • Change lifestyle gradually, rather than everything at once.
  • Eat all meals, even snacks, seated at a table.
  • Chew slowly and avoid gulping in hurry.
  • Stress is not the right time to spend money.
  • Engage in something physical whenever you feel anxious or crave a pleasure releasing-substance (alcohol, tobacco, sugar).
